Kinder - Mixed Age
Room Three + Four
Wood Street is proud to be able to offer 15 hours of funded kinder each week for our 3 and 4 year-olds. Our Mixed Age Kinder Program is spread across 3 separate learning environments, encompassing 2 indoor rooms and 1 outdoor space.
Our Mixed Age Kinder Program caters for up to 34 children daily with 4 educators, of which 3 are qualified Kindergarten teachers. The kindergarten program operates from 8.30am to 4pm daily during school terms. Outside of these hours long day care is offered with a more relaxed program that complements the kindergarten program.
In our Mixed Age Kinder space, we provide a developmentally appropriate, integrated curriculum that is secure, yet flexible, and supports children’s learning through an intentionally planned yet flexible play-based approach program. By using play resources that are open-ended and culturally inclusive we seek to provide a curriculum that will facilitate the learning of basic concepts and skills, building on prior knowledge skills and strengths whilst supporting children to be active citizens of our community that are prepared for a life long journey of learning.
The curriculum also fosters Intellectual development through active learning, to think, to plan, to suggest, to initiate, to describe, to negotiate and to try. The Educators support children through a range of resources, experiences and planned activities that are guided by the children’s ideas and interests,
Preschool children learn by engaging in activities that are real and meaningful to them – activities that encourage social and emotional development, skills, knowledge, ways of thinking and learning, and explores the interconnectedness between ourselves and our world and ways of knowing, being and doing. Our program uses stem habits of mind and Multi-Modal literacies.
